REGIONAL FORUM BRINGS COACHES TOGETHER

REGIONAL FORUM BRINGS COACHES TOGETHER

by James Skitt - 21.10.08

Three members of the English Institute of Sport (EIS) North East Strength & Conditioning (S&C) team, Jared Deacon, Julie Twaddle and Duncan French, recently attended the third Regional S&C Coaches Forum involving over twenty attendees from various backgrounds within the region.

Teesside University hosted the latest event, with representatives from Newcastle, Northumbria and Teesside Universities attending, as well as practitioners from TASS, Roehampton University, Middlesbrough FC and Gener8 Fitness consultancy.

The evening saw Matt Portas and Chris Barnes of Middlesbrough Football Club and Teesside University respectively outline their use of various GPS systems for player monitoring of training volumes and intensities followed by discussion around the validity of the systems and the relative merits of their use for monitoring player training.

Nick Allamby, a conditioning coach also with Middlesbrough FC, then outlined his use of a fundamental movement screening process which he has implemented to complement the medical, tactical and technical information on players and use as a functional assessment tool to highlight any underpinning flaws in players movement.

Matt Wright, Elite Sport Development Officer at Teesside, organised the evening which comes on the back of an initiative set up by the EIS S&C team in the North East Region where practising S&C coaches from varying backgrounds could get together to share ideas and have constructive discussion in a forum setting.

EIS S&C Coach Jared Deacon, who hosted the inaugural forum at the EIS in Gateshead earlier this year, told eis2win.co.uk; “It has been great to see the number of people interested in having a forum such as this where there are some excellent ideas shared in a practical and open way.”

“This is the third event this year and we hope this is the type of event which will continue to snowball and continue to develop the relationships and community of S&C coaches in the North East region.”

The next forum is planned for late January 2009 and anyone wanting to attend should email Jarod.Deacon@eis2win.co.uk
